'Cultural Respect & Safety Training' Workshop | Thursday, 11. June 2020

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, this workshop will be reschueled until further in the year. Once we know when we can reschedule the workshop, we will then update the event dates on Eventbrite.

Sharon Gollan is a descendent of the Ngarrindjeri Nation of South Australia, with family and cultural connections to many communities within and beyond South Australia. She is an active member of the broader Aboriginal community in South Australia and is recognised as a leader both within her Ngarrindjeri Nation and the wider Aboriginal community.

Sharon is well known for and under constant demand to facilitate ‘Cultural Respect and Safety training' workshops that assist non-Aboriginal health, education and human services workers to understand the dimensions of racism, reflect on their cultural identity, and explore how to address racism in order to develop culturally respectful and safe services in working with Aboriginal people, agencies and communities.

In 2019, Sharon was a finalist in the ‘Racism. It stops with me!’ category of the Australian Human Rights Award for this work.

The workshop focuses on material that will extend and enhance participants’ ability to:

w   identify, understand and respond to racism, including institutional racism

w   recognise and understand how dominant culture and whiteness impact on experiences, opportunities, and outcomes for Aboriginal Australians

w   understand how racism impacts on quality of life and life expectancy for Aboriginal Australians

w   appreciate the impact of colonisation and dispossession for Aboriginal Australians, including the historical and ongoing effects in their everyday lives

w   support and implement initiatives for Aboriginal Australians as part of their work roles.

Morning Tea and Lunch are provided as part of the ticket cost on both days. Please contact Talera Gollan-Davey on 0439844339 if you have any dietary requirements.
