Employer Ready Event for IT, Digital and Media with City of Bristol College | City of Bristol College | Wednesday, 26. June 2019

Skills gaps. Dwindling talent pools. Brexit. The 4th industrial revolution (watch )
What should education look like in 2019 so that local young talent is equipped with the Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours to positively contribute to businesses as apprentices or employees when they leave college?
This event forms an important step in the total redesign of the curriculum and learning culture at City of Bristol College.

On the 26th June, we are asking IT, Digital and Media professionals to volunteer their time to engage with our IT, Digital and Media students.

What happens on the day?
We don't ask our IT, Digital and Media Volunteers to give speeches or presentations or prepare anything before the day.
On the day, our facilitator will take you through three activities with small groups of students:
a)   Helping students understand what are the key characteristics required of new young employees.
 b)   Using your experience and knowledge of your sector, advising students on how to solve a real-world problem.
 c)   Discussing 1:1 with students, specific aspects of their course work and how they relate to the real world.
In essence, your role is to provide a dose of reality since, as teachers, we cannot know what actually happens in your industry on a day-to-day basis.
You can watch a video from a similar day by clicking here
With your support, our aim is to provide a steady stream of work-ready, eager, confident, creative and ambitious new young employees.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
By car
College Green Centre has disabled parking which is allocated to disabled blue badge holders on a first come, first served basis.
The nearest public car parks are @Bristol and on Jacobs Wells Road. On-street parking on St George's Road and College Street car park is limited to two hours.  There is no parking at the venue.
By bike
Secure bicycle anchor points are available as well as "Bikeaway" secure lockers.
By bus

What’s for lunch?
We will provide a buffet lunch and we will ask for your dietary requirements when you register.

What do I wear?
Please come dressed as you would to a normal working day.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
If you are subsequently unable to attend at a later date please let us know as soon as possible so we can find a replacement.
If you would like a colleague or contact to attend in your place or in addition to yourself that can be arranged. Please let the Business Engagement Team know before the event. Please email us at:
or call 01173 048000

What preparation should I do before the event?
There is nothing you need to do specifically to prepare; we have selected you based on your career path to date and relevance of your experience to the curriculum the students are studying.
However, if you would feel more comfortable attending having done some preparation, please take time to think about what you would like to know now if you were 18 years launching your career.

What is expected of me after the event?
Nothing!  Unless you want to of course.  This is a stand-alone event.  It does, however, form part of a full redesign of curriculum content and delivery and indeed a change in the learning culture at the college; there will be other ways to get involved including providing work placements to the talent you spot on the day!
