Ensuring Safer Recruitment for the Children's Workforce | Bridge Professional Development Centre | Thursday, 23. May 2019

Mandy Parry is now a nationally accredited Safer Recruitment trainer.
Safer Recruitment should be carried out by at least one member of every recruitment panel. It is further recommended that a group of people from each setting will have received Safer Recruitment training. Staff who have been trained in Safer Recruitment should regularly update their training.
This training is based on an understanding of offender behaviour and will enable participants to analyse the scale of the problem and study the abused and abuser. It will explore different theories of abuse and examine how this knowledge can be applied to the educational context and how abuse can best be prevented through clear safer recruitment and selection. Finally participants will develop their understanding of the importance of observing an 'ongoing culture of vigilance' to ensure the safeguarding of children in their setting after recruitment.
Key outcomesThis course will enable participants to:

Identify key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people;
Consider policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting;
Help participants to begin to review their policies and practices in recruitment with a view to creating a safer culture.

*NB this is not intended to be a comprehensive workshop on staff recruitment and selection.
