Raku fired enamel soap dishes | Sunday, 18. October 2020

Very exciting enamelling workshop, using a technique borrowed from ceramics to achieve unique and unpredictable decorative finishes

On this workshop you will get the chance to have a go at a variety of techniques including cutting out a shape with a piercing saw, drilling, annealling (softening) metal, forming a bowl shape in copper and enamelling. At the end of the final firing of your bowl, we will have a go at the raku technique, borrowed from ceramics, which uses smoke to achieve an unpredictable lustrous finish.

You will complete either a soap dish or, if you prefer, an ornamental trinket dish to take home with you at the end of the workshop. Please note, that I cannot predict exactly how your finished piece of work will look. However, this is part of the joy and excitement of raku firing!
