SLCN: Following instructions and Supporting listening skills | | Monday, 09. March 2020

Do you have children in your classroom who has difficulties understanding?
Is this affecting their ability to access the curriculum and develop confidence interacting with others?
Are you struggling to meet the needs and support these children in your classroom?

Supporting children and young people with Speech and language difficulties can be very challenging and often requires extra support. We know that the earlier you help, the better outcomes they have for their communication and learning.

During this session we will teach you what level your children are at, how you can check what they understand and how to help! This can help you start to make change even if you are waiting for Speech and Language Assessment!

The session will consist of:


What is it like for a child with difficulties understanding, and what signs should we look out for?


Information carrying words and how to assess them


Blank levels of questioning and what this means for their learning.


The best strategies you can do to help their learning.



We use a combination of coaching and practical activities and will direct you to resources (both paid and free) throughout the afternoon.



This event is ideal for:
Any educational professionals working with children suspected of, or diagnosed  Speech and Language difficulties, in:


Early Years Foundation Settings


Primary schools


Secondary schools


This includes: Class Teachers, Teaching Assistants, SENCo's.



Timetable:
12:30 - Registration and induction
13:00 - Comprehension of language levels and strategies using a combination of coaching and practical activities.
We will cover Information carrying words and Blank Levels and strategies to help!
15:15 - Q&A's

Speaker:
This course will be presented by Speech and Language Therapists, who has a specialist interest in supporting children with Language difficulty. We have a wide range of experience in supporting children with language difficulty in mainstream schools across Manchester. We are passionate about increasing awareness of the long-term impact of Language difficulty and training parents and educational staff to have a positive impact on the lives of children and young people with Language Difficulty.
