Gainsborough Silk Weaving: a behind the scenes tour | School of Textiles | Wednesday, 26. June 2019

Gainsborough Silk Weaving have been producing some of the world’s finest fashion and interior fabrics since 1903 and hold the Royal Warrant. Rarely open to the public, we are pleased to offer a privileged behind-the-scene tour of this working silk mill. You will experience the ‘production floor’ for yourself and see some of the original 1930s looms in action alongside their highly sophisticated computerised weaving looms. The tour will introduce you to the entire production process - from design, hand-dyeing yarns and weaving the final fabrics. You will also have the chance to see their beautiful archive of fabrics and designs that are used today for historical reproductions and referencing for new designs. Gainsborough also produce their own range of silk fabrics that they sell to the trade through their London showroom. Please note that there is not a shop on site.
