Mindfulness. Meditation. Everyone’s talking about it, but what’s it really all about, and how do you actually do it?

About this Event

Meditation has proven value in the relief of stress and related conditions, and it helps people to achieve a greater sense of calmness, clarity, balance and perspective in their lives.

This one-day 'Just Meditation' workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience who might want to refresh their practice. It will cover both practical and theoretical aspects of mindfulness and meditation, with opportunities for questions and discussion – and, of course, plenty of time spent practising silent mindfulness meditation together.

  • 12.30 Lunch break (please bring a packed lunch)
  • 14.00 Second Session
  • 16.00 Depart

Please remember to bring a packed lunch, and please be aware that parking is very limited at the Priory.

These workshops will be repeated at regular intervals. The format will remain more or less the same, though content and topics of discussion may vary.



Led by The Revd Dr Nicholas Buxton

‘Just Meditation’ represents a distinctive approach to the learning and practice of meditation developed by Nicholas Buxton, Director of St Antony’s Priory, Durham, and a founding partner of Just Meditation CIC and the Newcastle Meditation Centre. Nicholas has been practising meditation for twenty five years, and teaching it for about the last fifteen years, having studied within both Buddhist and Christian monastic traditions. He is the author of Tantalus and the Pelican: exploring monastic spirituality today (2009) and The Wilderness Within: meditation and modern life (2014). His latest book, appropriately titled Just Meditation should be ready for publication next year.
