Developing Your Leadership | Museums Galleries Scotland | Wednesday, 14. November 2018

This six day programme will give you practical skills and tools you can take back to your day-to-day work to help you to become effective and authentic leaders.
This is a 6 day course taking place over the course of three months.The course dates are 9.30am - 4.30pm on 14 Nov, 21 Nov, 12 Dec, 19 Dec, 16 Jan and 23 Jan. To complete this programme successfully you need to attend for a minimum of 80% of the time. 
Who is this for?
‘Emerging’ leaders (those new to the leadership role) or those looking to make the step up into leadership.
This programme follows on from Museums Galleries Scotland’s one-day symposium ‘Rethinking Leadership’ which explored topical issues related to leadership and new ideas, concepts and innovative practice from inside and outside the sector.
What to expect?
Join the Social Enterprise Academy for a programme aimed at upskilling you in the three key areas required for effective leadership: Leading Yourself; Leading Others; and Leading the Organisation.
On completing the programme you will have a good understanding of your personal strengths and areas for development; strengthened your delegation, coaching and negotiation skills; learned how to get the best from your team and better develop your position within your organisation; and have an insight into managing change, conflict and challenging situations in the workplace.
This programme leads to a qualification by the City and Guilds Group through the ILM, entitled Award in Leadership (SCQF Level 9). 
£100 for Scottish museum sector staff or volunteers. This is for the full 6 day course and includes all workbooks and materials. 
The detail
The programme consists of six days made up of three modules, each relating to a key area required for effective leadership: Leading Yourself; Leading Others; and Leading the Organisation.
Module 1 – Leading and understanding yourself (Days 1 – 2) 
Within this module we’ll be looking at:

Identifying your personal leadership goals for the programme and your approach to learning 
Exploring what sort of leader you need to be to support people and teams in your organisation
Identifying your strengths and areas for development and exploring how you can apply them in your leadership practice 
Exploring different leadership approaches and what it means for you as you step into leadership  

This module will also give you the opportunity to meet your peers that can and will act as your support network throughout the course and beyond.
Module 2 – Leading and understanding others (Days 3 – 4)
Within this module we’ll cover:

How you can help to create an engaging and motivating work environment that supports people who are delivering social change
Strengthening your approach to delegation and empowering others
Building your coaching approach to leadership 
Exploring the key skills of listening, questioning and feedback and how you can use them in your leadership  
Developing an understanding of partnership working including negotiation and influencing skills

Module 3 – Leading in your organisation (Days 5 -6)
The final module will:

Explore team dynamics and how to lead and get the best from teams
Look at communication skills and enhancing your ability to have positive and courageous conversations
Explore your responsibilities to the strategic and operational roles
Consider how to manage change and transition in your organisation 

Within the final module you’ll have an opportunity to review your learning journey and personal leadership goals, take some time to look forward and plan for the future and identify how you can support each other in future.
