Drugs and Mental Health - Scottish Mental Health First Aid | Foundation Scotland | Wednesday, 06. February 2019

What we are offering
Crew are offering a three day training opportunity which includes 12 hours of the NHS Scottish Mental Health First Aid Course (SMHFA) followed by a full day of drug awareness and mental health training to consolidate the learning from the first two days and apply this to the context of drug use.
Days one and two
The SMHFA course covers key issues such as

attitudes and stigma towards mental illness
listening skills
how to spot the symptoms of mental ill-health and
how we can respond as a mental health first aider while keeping ourselves safe
common issues such as depression, anxiety, self-harm, ******* and psychosis. 

Each participant will receive an NHS certificate upon completion of the 12 hour course. 
Day three
The third day of training, which can be booked as a stand alone course, combines our popular drug awareness and drug trends training with a focus on stimulant and recreational drug use.
We will explore

drug trends
the impact drug use can have on mental health and wellbeing
harm reduction information
how you can respond
signposting and available services

Who this course is aimed at
This course is suited to those looking to gain a better understanding of mental health within the context of drug use. It would be suitable for drugs workers, social care workers, foster carers, CLD workers and support workers but is open to all who have an enthusiasm for the topic. 
Participants can book on to the full three day training course which will allow them to gain key skills in mental health first aid and learn how these skills can be applied in the context of drug use. 
If you have already attended a SMHFA course but are still interested in learning more about mental health and drugs you can book on to the final day only.
6th and 7th February - SMHFA
The 12 hour SMHFA course will be delivered across these two days. Attendees must attend both days to complete the course and receive their certificate.
8th February - Drug Awareness and Mental Health
This full day training of Drug Awareness and Mental Health will follow the SMFHA course but is also open to anyone who has previously completed a SMHFA course or who has a strong interest in drugs and mental health. Tickets for this date can be purchased separately.
Registration will begin at 9am each day and the training will finish at 5pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
As part of the SMHFA workbooklets and other paper resources are provided. 
All attendees of the Drug Awareness and Mental Health training day will receive a Crew Psychoactive Drugs booklet, a copy of the presentation slides, certificate of attendance and the opportunity to purchase further Crew resources.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The venue is located behind Edinburgh's Waverley train station at the Calton Road exit. It is a short walk from major bus routes. Parking in the local area is paid parking.
