Lecture: Columba's Iona: Archaeology of the Thin Place | Tuesday, 21. September 2021
About this Event
Iona is known around the globe as Scotland's most sacred place, and yet until recently little was known about the earliest phases of St Columba's foundation. This lecture will discuss recent discoveries, such as the results of new excavations of an extraordinary 7th century building at the abbey that have changed our understanding of the site. Peter Yeoman has had a long association with Iona Abbey, and in 2013 led a major new research project there which informed the re-interpretation of the site for Historic Scotland, including the creation of a new museum of the High Crosses and other early Christian sculpture. An Archaeology Scotland lecture.
