Moving and Handling | Training for Care | Thursday, 03. October 2019

A course suitable for Care staff and volunteers who provide physical assistance to clients including assistance with bed transfers. N.B. This course does not include work with hoists.
Course ContentTheory:

the manual handling operations regulations
risk avoidance, assessment and reduction
responsibilities of employers, staff, and volunteers
basic anatomy, physiology, nature of injury
efficient movement and ergonomics

Practical (as appropriate):

manoeuvres and transfers, e.g. sitting to standing, assisted walking, stairs, car transfers, wheelchair use, use of glide sheets, transfer aids, movements of clients in bed, safe handling of inanimate loads

Scottish Manual Handling Passport Scheme (SMHPS), 2014This course covers Modules A, B, C and Dfoundation training curriculum – theory – inanimate loads – chair manoeuvres – bed manoeuvres
Certification  TfC Certificate of Attendance
Times - Stated course lengths include a.m. and p.m. coffee break (15 min) and lunch break (30 min).
Refreshments - All refreshments are included in the course fee. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided at the start and mid point of morning and afternoon sessions. Lunch is provided for all full day courses (selection of vegetarian and non vegetarian sandwiches, fruit and cakes).
Cancellations - A full refund will be given if a booking is cancelled not later than 15 days prior to the course start date or if TfC cancels a course.
