Scottish Bass Trust present Dr Adam Booker in Concert | Palmerston Place Church | Thursday, 03. October 2019

The incredibly versatile double bassist, Dr Adam Booker (USA ) plays a programme of classical and jazz double bass, featuring new music written by himself and Mr David Heyes (UK). He is joined by top, local jazz musicians, Mr Richard Bailey (piano) and Mr Keith Haldane (Drums).
Dr. Booker is the current Assistant Professor of Double Bass at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. His performance credits include the Minnesota Orchestra, the Duluth Superior Symphony  Orchestra and the Johnson City Symphony and The Symphony of the Mountains. He has also performed with several of jazz's great masters,including Al Grey, Frank Foster, John Fedchock, Russel Malone, Butch Miles, Diana Krall, Ingrid Jensen, Christine Jensen, and pop music icon, Elvis Costello.
Apart from being a sideman on numerous recordings, Dr. Booker’s first album as a leader, Unraveled Rival, was released under the Shifting Paradigm Records label.
This recital features new music written by Adam and UK bassist, Mr. David Heyes. The work is a based upon the Ordinary Mass, written by Dr. Booker for the jazz idiom, and juxtaposes Mr. Heyes’ new work, Seven Last Words From the Cross for unaccompanied bass. The blending of both jazz and classical styles in this program highlights the immense capabilities of modern double bass techniques, and will be released as a studio album laterthis year.
