FAQS
What can I expect from the accomadation?
Accomadation is 3-4* hotels, picked for their proximity to our route. All the hotels we choose are excellent with en-suite facilities; standards may vary between hotels. Rooms wil be based on two people sharing a room. If you are taking on the challenge on your own dont worry, we will pair you up with somebody in a simular position. You can opt for a single room, but this will incur a supplementary charge to you and cannot be added to the fundriaisng target to pay for the supplement.
What food is included and will the challenge cater for all diets?
Evening meals and breakfasts will be provided at the hotels, apart from the evenings of day one and day four. Lunches are provided by Chapeau catering and are a generous buffet-style (hot and cold) with plenty of energy food to keep you going! Ther will be refreshments provided at each cycle check point of which there will be a minimum of 2 per day, in addition to lunch of course and consisting water, juices and high-energy snacks - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Who will be there to support me during the event?
Your challenge will be lead by experienced Chapeau Events crew. The Crew are selected for their experience in cycling events around the world, their friendliness and approach ability, sence of humour and ability to safely and effectively deal with any situation that arises. The crew are also first aid trained. You will be in safe hands with the Chapeau Crew.
The number of crew and support vechicles will depend on the final size of your group, but the team will be looking after every aspect of your trip whether thats transporting your luggage, ensuring your route is well marked, sorting out any mechanical problems or giving you a lift in the back vechicle - our " Love bus".
You shall also have your hospice representative there with you on the challenge to support you and the Chapeau Crew.
Will I have to carry my kit?
No, your bags will be transported each day from hotel to hotel, so all you will need to carry is what you need for that day's ride. On reaching the hotels ,at the end of each day, you will hand over your bike for safe overnight keeing and collect your luggage. Each morning, you hand over your luggage and collect your bike. Space is limited and hard sided luggage is not suitable, so it is essential that your kit is packed in a soft sailing bag, rucksack or expedition kit bag.
How much does it cost?
You will need to pay £150 registration fee to secure your place on the challenge and we then ask you to raise a minium of £2000 for St Elizabeth Hospice, £1,110 of which needs to be raised eight weeks prior to the challenge, since part of your sponsorship will be used to pay for your place on the challenge.
How will I get my bike to and from Italy?
There will be an arranged time for you to drop off and pick up your bikes at the hospice before and after the challenge. Your bikes will then be transported to and from the challengevto give you more flexibility in your travel and to avoid you having to pay expensive baggage costs.
How will I know where I am going?
This is a fully supported ride and as such you will have a dedicated Event Crew at your service throughout the challenge. They will mark the route with fluorescent arrows, provide you with refreshments, fix any mechanical problems with ypur bike, offerfirst aid and lots and lots of encourgement.
How fit do I need to be?
Chapeau Events attract people of all levels of experience and fitness., all ages and backgrounds. They expect all participants to train hard in advance to acheive this challenge, but we respect everyones limits. You will be in the saddle for near 100 miles on tow days as well as riding for 5 consecutive days, so you should ensure, as a minimum that you are comfortable riding 80 -90 mile dayand have achived this regularly before you leave for the challenge. The profile on some days will be hilly, so you should include some hilly rides in your training. The challenges are designed, so thar everyone can go at their own pace; this is not a race. Route profiles and training packs will be sent out once registered.
What about Insurance?
It is a pre requisite of challenge participation that you have adequte travel insurance to cover any medical costs and your personal possessions for the duration of the ride. Thuis is not included in the event priceand will need to be arranged independently.
We hope to welcome you onto our cycling team for this amazing challenge.
