FREE Game and Online Safety Leeds | Geeks Room CiC | Friday, 16. August 2019

It’s the Summer Holidays! Being Online and Gaming Online will be one of the key thing young people will do during this time. Are they ensuring their own safety? Do they understand the consequences of not being safe online?
Geeks Room CIC, in collaboration with Leeds City Council; Inner West Community Committee, want to show young people from the ages of 8 - 18, the potential dangers of being online, while giving them the knowledge and understanding to be safe in the world of technology without stopping them from enjoying the wonders of it.

Friday the 16th of August (Morning 10am – 12pm)

Thursday the 29th of August (Afternoon 1pm-3pm)

With the ever expanding and developing internet; gaming and socialising online is opening a whole world of exciting possibilities, it is imperative for our children to be taught how to be safe online and to understand the reality of their and others' actions. This is a free event. 
Each session will discuss different topics such as:

Protecting and Maintaining Privacy

Streaming, Sharing and Social Media

The effects of cyber bullying

Managing Security, Passwords and Accounts

How to be safe while gaming online

Viruses, Malware and other harmful software

The risks and after effects of unsafe computing

At the end of the course your student will take home:

Certificate of Attendance and Completion

Access to resources if used on the day

About Us We are a registered provision centre, our staff are DBS checked and experience in many aspects of computer technology. We are an inclusive provision, and aim to ensure everyone is able to learn and have fun, no matter their ability and capability; with every attendee having a tailored lesson based on their strengths. Our approach teaches each individual with a unique mentoring approach. Included within our courses is access to our Social Gaming Experience. Where the attendees can enjoy a relaxed environment, while connecting to others within the community. Using our 'Game Education' approach, which uses gaming as a vehicle for learning, and lies at the core of innovation and creativity, aiding problem solving, language acquisition, numeracy, and social, physical, and emotional skills.

Is there an age requirement for the event? This event is for ages 8 - 18. (A parent or guardian must drop and pick up the attendee.) Are there any other registration/forms needed before the course? An email will be sent out to all attendees, with forms needed to be filled in before the event. If tickets are booked on the day of the event, these forms will be available on the front desk to fill out when you drop the attendee off. What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event? Parking is free for two and a half hours in Bramley Shopping Centre. Buses from Leeds and Bradford, as well as surrounding towns. How can I contact the organiser with any questions? Please let us know if your child cannot attend the event, so we are able to release the ticket to someone else. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No printed tickets necessary to attend the event. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? Please inform us if someone other than the person registered will be attending the event, this is for us to set up log ins and allocate resources to the attendees.
