Healing, Filming, Drinking and Driving - Hidden Bloomsbury Deco | Saturday, 06. June 2020

An alternative Bloomsbury Art Deco walk.

We'll begin with a couple of well-known 1930s constructions in the vicinity, including the building in this picture which is often referred to as one of the best examples of this architectural style.

Then we travel eastwards to admire other often overlooked or unnoticed gems hiding in plain sight in the lesser-used backstreets – residential and office developments, hospitals, education hubs, manufactories and bars.

See some wonderful examples of Streamline Moderne, Jazz Age metalwork, carved reliefs and curtain walls. Learn about innovative industries and institutions and see how people lived, worked and socialised.

At the end of the walk please join me for a drink and a chat inside a 1930s pub which still retains most of its original features.

Duration: just over 90 minutes – but please allow 2 hours for questions and discussions.

The exact meeting point for the walk will be sent to you via email after purchase of your ticket(s).

This tour is often scheduled on the same day as my other Art Deco walks – please check here

"[Art Deco Holloway] was a great walk... It included buildings I know, ones I walk past, and ones I confess have hardly registered on my consciousness. Now I feel I know the area on my doorstep much better, thanks to Jane. She weaves her own journey of discovery about the buildings and people who worked or lived there into the story, and her enthusiasm and fascination rubs off on you!"

For last-minute bookings, enquiries or updates please call me prior to the tour start time on 07941 475003. Please note that I do not check my phone after a walk has started because it's not fair on the other attendees.

My guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. The walking tours I offer are all on subjects I am genuinely interested in – each highlights a different facet of my personality. I am specifically interested in the changing **** of our streets over time and how those changes have affected local communities and the social history of an area. I design and research every tour myself – and the research never ends.
