DNA Detectives: Dog Health & Disease (pre-lecture workshop) | Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre | Wednesday, 23. October 2019

Would you like to get hands-on with real lab techniques used to research dog's DNA? Are you a pupil in S4, S5 or S6 with an interest in science? If so, sign up for our free 45-minute pre-lecture workshop in the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre.
During the workshop you will work with scientists from The Roslin Institute to carry out a laboratory technique called gel electrophoresis. You will analyse DNA samples to discover their genotype for an important, health-related gene and find out what it's like to work in this area of research.
The hands-on workshop will also cover some of the science behind the genetics of health and disease in dogs and is an ideal introduction to the Let's Talk About Health lecture "Heads and Tales: Stories of Dogs and Their Breathing Disorders" that immediately follows the workshop -  lecture tickets are free but need to be booked separately here
Places at this workshop are reserved for school pupils in S4-S6 and are limited, so they must be pre-booked.
Places can either be booked by individual pupils, or by teachers on behalf of their pupils (maximum 4 pupil tickets per booking). Please provide all pupil names on group bookings and contact details for the group. Teachers are welcome to observe the workshop and should book a teacher ticket for themselves.
Meeting point: Charnock Bradley Building Reception, 4.20pm (10 minutes before the workshop start time).
