Understanding the Specific Areas of Learning
This introductory training has been developed to support practitioners new to the childcare sector and the EYFS or those wanting to refresh their knowledge.
As children grow in confidence and progress in ability within the prime areas - which continue to be fundamental throughout the EYFS - providers must support children in the 4 specific areas of learning:

literacy

mathematics

understanding the world

expressive arts and design

These specific areas grow out of the prime and provide important contexts for learning. They offer a range of experiences and opportunities for children to broaden their knowledge and skills.
The training will highlight some of the key areas in the new Education Inspection Framework (September 2019) that Ofsted will consider in the Ofsted inspection, for example ‘cultural capital’, intent, implementation and impact of the curriculum.
This training will offer opportunities for practitioners to:

Develop their knowledge and understanding across the 4 specific areas of learning;

Explore the specific areas of learning with a focus on providing a rich and exciting learning environment and meaningful learning experiences

Consider the role of the practitioner in facilitating progression in learning.
