A Rowntree Assortment: Stories from the Rowntree Archives | York Explore Library and Archive | Tuesday, 29. October 2019

Find out more about York’s most famous family through the newly catalogued archives held at the Borthwick Institute.
November marks the end of a 2.5 year Wellcome funded project to catalogue the archives of the Rowntree family and Trusts.  Using a selection of items from across the archives, this lecture will share new insights into York’s most famous family and the world they inhabited.  Follow the Rowntree story from humble beginnings in York to the trenches of the Western Front and the earliest days of post-Apartheid South Africa, drawing on newly catalogued letters, diaries, and photographs; including some that are being shown in public for the first time.
